The perfect first stap

Where do you start with sustainability? And which measures would best suit your company? In the SustainABLE project, business students from Avans University of Applied Sciences make an analysis of your company, free of charge, and suggest solutions that compliment it. And if you want to pursue them? Then interns and graduates are ready to help you and the municipality offers a subsidy to implement measures. To date, 100 companies have already participated.

SustainABLE is a three-year collaboration between Avans University of Applied Sciences, the municipality of Breda, PWC, REDview BI and the Breda Circulair Foundation.

Breda Circulair

Breda Circulair Foundation brings together everything about circularity in Breda. With a network of about 700 people—from business, education, government and other organizations—there is always someone here who can help you or to provide a connection to a person or initiative. Tip: check the handy flyer with tips & tricks.

STEK

Sustainable entrepreneurs are often pioneers. And their ideas don't fit quite yet within existing rules or funding models. Therefore, Breda has a temporary rule-free zone for about 25 entrepreneurs. Do you also have circular plans? Then take a look at STEK, located at the Veilingkade quay.

Symbiosis4Growth

Every company has some excess... material, business space, knowledge, facilities. Making this available to other companies can save costs, make a positive contribution to the environment, or even lead to innovation. Symbiosis4Growth helps you to find a company that can benefit from your residual resources. And maybe you can profit from someone else’s surplus.

De groene pluim (the green plume)

Are you already a sustainability superstar? Then sign up for De Groene Pluim (“the Green Plume”) award and who knows, you might receive this honour this year. The foundation carefully chooses one company from the applicants that is fully assessed. That company receives the Green Plume. For example, at the moment there are more than 40 Green Plume holders in the region. Past Breda winners include Bluekens EV (2019), Van Haperen Dakbedekkingen (2020), Heembouw (2021) and Satelliet (2022).

Materials Hub

In the Breda region, a lot of material is needlessly wasted. Something that is excess for one company, is valuable for another! At the moment there is a pilot at the recycling centre (Milieustraat) in which material is kept separate for 11 entrepreneurs. In the autumn, we will evaluate this collaboration and consider how we can further develop it. Interested in contributing to this?

CIRCULAR TABLE

Where can you contact the municipality with your issue about sustainable or circular entrepreneurship? The Circular Table (Circulairetafel) is the place! Here a group of colleagues from several different departments of the municipality work on sustainability in Breda. They meet regularly to consider how they can support your sustainable idea or product from different angles. No question is too crazy.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CIRCULAR BUSINESS CHALLENGE BREDA

In 2023, we want to help eight large companies and organizations from the city to find solutions for their sustainable issue. We do this through the successful Chamber of Commerce (KvK) Business Challenge platform. We are currently looking for Breda companies and organisations with a circular or sustainable challenge. Do you have more than 50 employees and do you want to present your query to 10,000 innovative entrepreneurs?

THE CIRCULAR PASS-ON TROPHY

Having a sustainable fellow entrepreneur put you in the spotlight, isn't that the ultimate appreciation? To this end, the circular pass-on trophy was created in Breda in 2021. From entrepreneurs to entrepreneurs. The entrepreneur who holds the trophy chooses who deserves it. To date, Breda Maakt Mij Blij, Zero Waste Nederland, Vermeulen Sloopwerken, ONS Label and Stadsingenieurs Breda have held the trophy. Who will be next?

FRONTRUNNERS SUSTAINABLE EVENTS

Every 6 weeks, event organizers and knowledge partners from Breda come together to strategise about making Breda events more sustainable. Wheelchair accessibility, electric cars as a replacement for diesel generators and even alternatives to the disposable cup are discussed here. There are no taboos. Do you also want to participate in this?

BioVoice

Large companies that are looking for a biobased or circular solution can register their challenge with BioVoice. Once a year, BioVoice publishes a series of challenges, inspiring innovative companies to present a solution. 9 out of 10 challenges are actually solved. Are you an innovative startup or SME? Through BioVoice you can offer your solution. Who knows, this might lead to an assignment at a large company such as Cosun, Dow and Cargill.
