The exciting finale of the Start-up Award took place on Tuesday evening, October 19th. In total five finalists competed for this coveted award. Live at Theatre Podium Bloos in Breda, they pitched their ambitions and growth potential to an expert jury. The 2021 Award winner was: A Perfect Jane. Jury chair Nicole Campen presented the award for their pitch about offering a sustainable and vegan alternative to women's shoes. A 200-strong audience attended the finale.
WOMEN'S SHOES MADE OF VEGAN LEATHER
The new fashion brand makes its products in a sustainable way and wants to offer a trendy and animal-suffering-free solution to its customers. Barely a year after the start, the company’s boots and shoes are already going all over the world. A Perfect Jane wants to expand its product range extensively in the coming years. This first Vegan & Sustainable fashion label from Dutch soil works together with a team of entrepreneurs from North Brabant to realize these growth ambitions.
About the jury
The professional jury consisted of Gilbert Gooijers (CM.com), Nicole Campen (Inkubis), Tom Straeter (Kadans Science Partner), Nick van Tellingen (DataLeaf Smart Software), Charlotte van Slobbe (De Beleggersclub) and Fleur van Oorschot (TUX Mobility, Award winner 2020). They had a difficult time choosing the final winner. In the end, A Perfect Jane scored the highest on the entrepreneurship criterion and founder Suzanne Harper's pitch was razor sharp. With fellow finalists Squad Mobility, You Lucky Bird, Jouw Meedenker and HalloLex, this 7th edition was also a sizzling award finale.
This year the professional jury assessed nearly fifty start-up nominations from all over the Netherlands on criteria such as social impact, entrepreneurship, innovation, and growth opportunities.

That the Start-up Award is also received national popularity is evident from the many nominations from all over the Netherlands. In 2021 it was possible for the first time for businesses from outside Breda to participate.
Research shows that start-ups are primarily concerned with solving current problems, developing their own solutions. Start-ups ensure innovation and contribute to strengthening our economy. The start-up companies are mainly concerned with topics such as smart mobility, energy transition, sustainability, health, and digitization.
