An entrepreneur who wants to sell or serve alcohol needs a liquor and catering license. You can request this from the municipality. To qualify for the permit, you meet a number of requirements. Check the municipality’s website for more information.

For catering establishments that do not serve alcohol, you need an operating license in certain streets in Breda. You request this from the municipality. Examples include a sandwich shop, lunch café, snack bar, ice cream parlour or shawarma / kebab shop, but also for a smart shop, head shop, cell phone or internet shop. If you want to sell goods or give information from a stall or car in a public space for more than 15 minutes then you need a pitch permit. Check the municipality’s website (in Dutch) for more information.

The municipality of Breda has made the organisation of the weekly markets independent. This means that these are not regulated by the municipality, but an independent organisation. You cannot apply for a new marketplace permit for the weekly markets until this has been established. As soon as more is known about the new organization, the details will be available on this web page.

Do you want to organise an event in Breda? For example, a fair, parade, sporting event, dance party or street barbecue? Then register the date and place of your event on the event reservation calendar. If you register before 1 October of the year prior to the event, you do not need to pay concession reimbursement tax (precariobelasting in Dutch).
